The theme of this exhibition, “Landscapes- Australia All Over” includes art work in three media and subjects from locations throughout regional Australia and some other countries.
Don Heumiller's interest began as a young boy about 10 years old with a passion for graphics in the form of pencil sketching.
An engineering career in rail transportation provided an interest in perspective drawing and this has provided a basis in his paintings for detail, depth and shading.
In 1982 at middle age he started painting lessons with the Malvern Art Society in Melbourne followed by personal instruction under Berris Ireland, (a former student of Sir William Dargy), in the art of tonal painting and when he was resident in Newcastle between 1986 and 1993 he had art tuition with the notable local artist Meryn Cork who expanded his technique using oils. Early works were oil landscape paintings and he converted to watercolours under the tuition of Margaret Wright (Central Coast). He attended several other workshops given by John Perkins and Helen Goldsmith.
He was selected as one of the winners in the 2010 ABC 702 Master Class competition at Taronga Park.
Acrylic is his current medium. This provides a new expression to his work. For a short time he was a member of the Lane Cove Art Society and exhibited in the annual art exhibitions as well as exhibitions in other states.
He has painted on commission for several local and international visitors. He expresses a passion for Nature’s graphic form, colour, light & shade to satisfy his need for inspiration. Each of these paintings embody this passion.
