Margaret Wright OAM and Judith McCreadie have been friends and colleagues for many years. This exhibition will be their third together and their second at the Lane Cove Music and Cultural Centre. They met as primary school teachers and recognized their shared interest in all aspects of the arts.
The last 15 years has seen them become focused on what is their absolute passion – painting in watercolour. Both artists have worked in the other available mediums, eg oils, pastels, gouache etc, however, in this latter time they have concentrated solely on transparent watercolour. Their works are held in collections within Australia and overseas.
Judith has branched into a comparatively new element, being watercolour on Yupo paper. This gives exciting, unpredictable effects and needs to be painted flat. With its contemporary look it is particularly successful for depicting water.
Margaret is a traditionalist who paints on French paper, frequently employing the technique of layered washes. Hers is an eclectic collection ranging from landscape to fantasy. She holds the Order of Australia for her achievements in the arts.
Both women are now ‘seniors’ – and loving it! They are delighted that their exhibition ELEMENTS was part of Seniors’ NSW Week 2011 celebrations at Lane Cove Music and Cultural Centre.
