Elizabeth Langreiter is an emerging artist who participated in her first group exhibition at the Workshop Arts Centre and Ewart Gallery Annual Art Fair in 2009. Elizabeth sold 9 paintings in this first group exhibition and received 4 commissions. Since this day she has sold many paintings.
The viewer will find that her artworks reveal a sense of humor and a love of colour. With her up beat style her artworks have been popular exhibition at NOC Cafe Willoughby & Oscars Café Rose Bay.
The Lane Cove Exhibition was Elizabeth’s first solo exhibition with over 40 paintings on display and for sale.
The Official Opening was Sun 13th Feb from 4-6pm.
Her first artistic success was at the age of 6 when she won 50cents in a Sun Herald Paint a Poster competition. It was therefore surprising she did not feel the desire to pick up another paint brush for many, many years. Elizabeth is now happily married and the mother of 2 small beautiful boys and after a long hiatus she has been making up for lost time.
Elizabeth has produced many artworks over the last few years and believes she has finally found her “thing”. Coming from an artistic family, she remembers her father enjoying painting and her mother being keen illustrator. Her father was always encouraging her to start painting but she was always too busy. Her brother is Greg Gillespie, a well known successful northern beaches artist who has won art competitions and sold many paintings.
One rainy day in July o8 Elizabeth was racking her brains as to what to give her husband for his birthday and decided to do a painting for him. She went out bought a huge canvas and the paint and produced a painting which was extremely well received. She then produced a painting for her father as an 80th birthday present who was amazed and very complimentary about his present. He encouraged her to keep painting. Realizing just how much she enjoyed the whole process, she kept experimenting and trying new subjects. She started reading art books and studying the works of other artists and learning as much as she could – often like many artists through trial and error.
Elizabeth works with acrylic paints and experiments with different styles. She loves working with colour and humour. She likes people to feel good and smile when they view her art. She enjoys painting figures in a naive art style with a humorous approach. She loves painting flowers in different styles. Elizabeth is always painting (when she has time) and is always thinking of the next one whilst putting the final touches to the last one.
