James Chan has over 20 years experience in teaching piano and has worked as a music teacher in prestigious international schools, both in primary and secondary school. In addition, he teaches musicianship, singing, composition and does arrangements.
James offers a fun and lively learning experience for AMEB exams, classical, jazz, contemporary and ethnic music, for all ages.
Piano, Accompianist and Musicianship Teacher
James Chan is a very experienced music teacher, he started learning piano at the age of 11 and by age 14 he won Third Prize in The Hong Kong Composers Class Piano Solo Competition. He furthered his studies at Monash University studying a Bachelor of Arts (Music) and a Bachelor of Economics. James also studied the piano under Tevor Barnard, a renowned international pianist and educator, whose teacher was a student of Ferruccio Busoni. James also completed a Postgraduate Certificate of Education from The University of Hong Kong.
James has been teaching piano for over 20 years, has taught for over 10 years in primary and secondary schools as a music teacher and all his students received B to A+ results in their AMEB Exams. He has lead many music activities, including keyboard groups, choirs, recorder groups, school orchestras, marching bands, musical productions, tone chime groups, etc.
His students range from 4 to 77 years old, with a diverse background.
James is fully bilingual in English and Chinese, he also provides piano accompaniment service for exams and functions. He loves teaching classical, jazz contemporary and ethnic music.
Apart from being a pianist and teacher James also enjoys composing and performance. In 2011 he performed with the Australian Youth Orchestra in an Australian Tourism Campaign at the Sydney Opera House, with great public response. In 2012 he composed an interlude and played it on the piano in the Australian TV series "Rake".
