The classes are based on Suzuki Early Childhood Music Education, recognised internationally by the ISA (International Suzuki Association).

The Suzuki Early Childhood Education is based on the following concepts:

Every child can learn: All children learn their mother tongue language through listening and repetition. This is the most natural way to learn, where children discover everything at their own rate, without pressure. In the same way, children can learn music. A child’s potential is unlimited and it all depends on the environment surrounding them.

Ability develops early: Studies show that it is during the first years that the brain absorbs the largest quantity of information. “A young child’s brain is said to develop to nearly 90% of the adult’s brain by the age of 10. During the first stage of its development, from birth to age 3, a child’s brain develops rapidly, reaching 60% of an adult’s development” - Shigeki Tanaka. Early childhood learning is the foundation for later learning and it determines future life.

Environment nurtures growth: A good balance between freedom and discipline is what helps a child learn a skill successfully. Teachers and parents have to work together to make the best environment possible for a child to grow to his/her fullest potential.

Children learn from one another: Children learn by watching everything around them and copying everything from sounds to behaviours. The classes are mixed-aged for this reason. Older children take more responsibility when they have to show something to a younger child, and the little ones learn by watching the older and more experienced children.

Success breeds success: By celebrating every single step, children feel confident about themselves and that is going to have a very positive impact on their future.

Parental involvement is critical: In the music classes, parents and children participate together in a calm and safe environment. Children need love from their parents; they want to feel that they are taken care of. There is a time in a child’s life that the parents are absolutely everything. Every opinion, every little thing is very big in a child’s eyes. The support of the parents is something essential in a child’s positive learning.

Encouragement is essential: Parents and teachers can help children feel confident. Self-esteem is a very important skill to have in life. That’s why children need encouragement provided by parents and teachers.

Suzuki Early Childhood Music Education is character development through music. Cooperation, diligence, concentration and respect help create a well-rounded character. That can be shown in different levels, like being able to wait for your turn, respecting the instruments or helping a younger child pack away their drum.

With regards to musical skills, children learn concepts like pitch or beat in a fun way. Listening and practising at home will also be essential in creating a routine that will definitely help future music lessons in any instrument. All this with positive reinforcement and love.

“Music exists for the purpose of growing an admirable heart.”
S. Suzuki
