Josh grew up in a large musical family in Sydney's North Shore. He began playing clarinet at the age of 10, frequently attending the NSW Clarinet Society events and workshops as a child. He then studied classical clarinet at Sydney Conservatorium of Music. He has an interest in many musical genres. Since graduation he has explored an interest in the EWI (Electronic Wind Instruments) and improvisation.
Combining the traditions of the classical clarinet with innovative and creative repertoire and performance is a passion of Clarinetist Liam Samat. He believes that music challenges, inspires, and expands the imagination of both the performer and audience. Currently under the tutelage of Frank Celata at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Liam is studying a Master of Music Studies (Performance) degree. He formerly studied both clarinet and Eb Clarinet at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, The University of Melbourne, with David Griffiths, Philip Arkinstall, and Paul Champion, and was awarded his Bachelor of Music (Degree with Honours) with First Class Honours. Liam has been awarded scholarships to study at both the Sydney Conservatorium, and previously the Melbourne Conservatorium, and was awarded his AmusA in Clarinet in 2018.
